Convex Geomatics is a Calgary-based geomatics firm that works across Alberta, and the Edmonton Metropolitan Region is one of our most frequent destinations. How a Project Runs When You’re in Edmonton and We’re in Calgary

  1. Scope by phone or email — send the site location, area or corridor length, deliverables and deadline. We return a quote with mobilization included.
  2. Permits & control — we handle RPAS airspace authorizations, coordinate site access, and establish or tie into your control network.
  3. Field capture — capture time depends on site size and access. Scheduling is planned around your dates and site conditions.
  4. Processing & QA — classification, surface build, feature extraction, check-point residuals and a QA summary.
  5. Delivery — CAD/GIS packages, reports, and a browser-based 3D viewer for your team. Signed plans where required.

River valley & ravines

The North Saskatchewan valley and its ravines are steep and treed. UAV LiDAR penetrates canopy to map bare earth safely, where ground crews and photogrammetry struggle.

Long corridors

Anthony Henday, arterial roads, rail and pipeline rights-of-way are mapped faster and more safely from a moving vehicle than on foot — with no lane closures.

Short seasons

Leaf-off windows in spring and fall are ideal for LiDAR. We plan captures around them so vegetated sites get the best ground definition.

Edmonton Surveying FAQ

Our office is in Calgary. Field crews mobilize to Edmonton and the Capital Region regularly. Mobilization is included in the quote, and where possible we combine nearby sites into a single trip.
Yes. Much of the Edmonton area falls within controlled airspace around Edmonton International, Villeneuve and other aerodromes. Our pilots hold Transport Canada Advanced RPAS certificates and we obtain the required NAV CANADA authorizations before flight. Where flight is not practical we use mobile or terrestrial LiDAR instead.
Typical accuracies: UAV LiDAR ±3–5 cm, mobile LiDAR ±2–3 cm, robotic total station ±5–15 mm, stockpile volumes ±1–3%, bathymetric ±5–10 cm. All work is tied to site control and delivered with a QA summary.
Layered DWG/DXF, LandXML surfaces, classified LAS/LAZ point clouds, GeoTIFF orthophotos, DTM/DSM, contours, cut/fill maps, volume reports, 3D meshes and web-based 3D viewers, plus signed plans where required.
